Lake Hills Fishing Derby 2009!

For experienced and budding fishermen alike, there is nothing more exhilarating and rewarding than a fish tugging on the other end of your line. As a kid growing up in Lake Hills, a day would not pass without at least dreaming of fish and ways to fool them. Well, as an adult, priorities inevitably change, but the dreaming continues. Now as a father, even more inspiring and exciting than a tug on the line from a hoodwinked fish, is a tug on my arm from my son, reminding me to let the grass grow and let the garage remain an oversized shed. Let’s go fishing!

Continuing our Father’s Day weekend kickoff tradition with fun, family, friends, and the Lake Hills spirit, I am thrilled to announce the 6th Annual Lake Hills Fishing Derby! In addition to the fun and community aspects of the Derby, fishing is a great way to get kids interested in the outdoors and to spark an appreciation and stewardship of our wonderful resource. I can’t think of any better reasons to dust off your rods and reels, organize your tackle box, sharpen your hooks, practice your knots, and re-spool your reels! Due to the potentially large number of fish caught during the derby, we are strong advocates of Catch and Release in order to preserve our natural resources and the ecology of the lake for our enjoyment for many years to come. If you have any fishing gear or technique questions, do not hesitate to contact me and I will be happy to share my knowledge.

All children will receive a “Good Sportsman” award with special awards for the top fishermen in each category. There is much to do to make this event run smoothly so please contact me if you are interested in lending a hand. Below is the event info in brief. The official rules and other reference materials will be distributed to all fishermen that register for the Derby.
